Malibu dress / George & Ginger

This fun little dress from George & Ginger was a happy surprise for me because honestly, I didn’t have high hopes I could pull of this look. The Malibu dress is a fairly dainty piece, with skinny binding straps and a length that hits above the knee. I added two inches to it and I still feel daring!

I wore this for the first time on our summer vacation week at the beach so threw it on over my swimsuit when we walked around town. I felt really comfortable in it and got a few compliments too! I sewed up a size 10 based on my measurements for this pattern designer. As mentioned above, I added about two inches in length to achieve this look on my 5’6″ frame. I used a soft light weight rayon rib knit I got on sale at Bow Button Fabrics (an awesome woman owned small online business).

This dress came together faster and easier than I expected. My sewing machine hates light weight knits so there were some bumps in getting through the process of attaching the binding (all due to my machine), but the technique itself wasn’t difficult and the instructions were super clear.

I am very happy I gave this dress a try and will sew up another one (or two…or three) next summer!
